Langley Flat to Pitched Frame System

The council’s Lytchet Way estate, which has a mix of three and four storey blocks, was selected for an initial project.

The Task

With no suitable land in the area available for development, they took inspiration from the Rooftop Development solution offered by Langley. This is an innovative concept that supports the Government housing objectives of delivering new homes by building up rather than out, using the space above existing buildings to create new homes.

Enfield Council took advantage of the single source design and supply chain offered by Langley for rooftop extensions, flat to pitched conversions and flat roofing.

The Outcome

The solution delivered 25 new homes for Enfield Council, with residents able to remain in their homes throughout the building work, saving the expense of temporary re-housing. Lytchet Way is an award-winning project recognised at RCI’s Pitched Roofing Awards for Product Innovation.

“Rooftop development represented a cost-effective way of adding to our housing stock without the need to acquire new land, which is often in short supply.”
