Delivering a compliant roofing system for a new primary school development

Oak Grange Primary School, Derby, UK

Oak Grange Primary School forms part of Derby City Council’s £30 million investment to expand school capacity in response to population growth exceeding 5% over the past decade. The school provides 354 primary places at Boulton Moor, a rapidly growing residential area on the edge of Derby.

The challenge

Oak Grange Primary School was developed as part of Derby City Council’s investment to expand school capacity in response to population growth across the city.

As a new-build education facility, the roof design needed to meet current thermal performance and fire safety requirements while being delivered within the overall construction programme. The waterproofing system also needed to align with the long-term management requirements of a public education estate

The approach

Langley’s TA-20 reinforced bituminous membrane system was specified for the roof build-up. The system was installed by Advanced Roofing as part of the main construction programme.

Langley’s technical team carried out weekly site visits during the installation to support the contractor and review the works against relevant installation guidance and project specifications, including BS6229 and NHBC Technical Standards.

Roofing works were completed within the programme window for the building.

The outcome

  • TA-20 roofing system installed across the school building
  • 20-year independent insurance-backed guarantee covering design, materials and workmanship
  • U-value of approximately 0.15 W/m²K
  • Installation completed within the construction programme
