Roofing Apprentice
Harrison is 19 years old and has worked for Mears Group for 18 months as a Roofing labourer. Harrison is in the first year of his Level 2 Waterproof Membrane installer apprenticeship with Langley Training Services, in what he hopes will be a long roofing career after completing his roofing apprenticeship.
Whilst on the apprenticeship program, Harrison will be given the knowledge and skills to install roofing membrane systems such as Reinforced Bitumen Membranes, Liquid Applied Membranes and Single- Ply Membranes, as well as learning key knowledge skills including interpreting drawings, measuring, and calculating the required quantity of materials.
“Since I left school, I’ve always wanted to learn a trade as It seemed interesting to me. An opportunity arose to start an apprenticeship in Roofing. I am loving every second of it.
The apprenticeship program has been great as it has given me a larger understanding of the different types of roofing installations and how they are installed. Our tutor has been so helpful, as he always takes time to explain and answer all our questions clearly, so we all understand. I am so pleased with how my skills in installing the different roofing systems have improved to a higher standard.
We learn other topics when we are here, like British values and the importance of safeguarding. This is great as we always feel safe and happy whilst we are here.
This has benefitted me greatly on-site with my company, as I have been given more responsibility and trust. When I finish my apprenticeship, I want to gain the skills and knowledge to become a site supervisor. I am really thankful to my company for giving me this opportunity.”
