Reinforced Bitumen Membrane Roofing Systems

This qualification is delivered through competency-based workplace assessment. Learners must be employed in a relevant job role and carry out their normal duties while being assessed on site. There is no classroom attendance requirement. An assessor will visit the learner in the workplace to observe tasks, review evidence, and provide assessment support. All learning and assessment are centred around demonstrating competence in real working conditions.

This NVQ enables employers to formally recognise the skills their workforce already has, ensuring operatives are competent and working to industry standards. It supports improved quality, consistency of work, and compliance with health, safety, and operational requirements, while minimising time away from the workplace. The qualification also supports workforce development, competence assurance, and contractual or client compliance requirements.

Learners gain a nationally recognised qualification by demonstrating competence in their current role. The NVQ validates existing skills, enhances employability, and supports progression within the building maintenance and construction sector. Because assessment takes place on the job, learners can continue earning while achieving their qualification.

Assessment is carried out entirely in the workplace and is based on proving occupational competence. Learners build a portfolio of evidence that may include on-site observations by a qualified assessor, photographic and documentary evidence, job records and work products, professional discussions, and witness testimonies. There are no exams or end-point assessments. Competence must be consistently demonstrated against the NVQ standards.

Upon completing the course learners will receive the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Waterproof Membrane Roofing Systems (Construction) – Reinforced Bitumen Membrane Roofing qualification.

The qualification is awarded by NOCN, ensuring it meets national standards and is valued by employers across the construction sector.

The duration of the qualification is flexible and depends on the learner’s experience and ability to demonstrate competence. Most learners complete the NVQ within 3–6 months. Assessment progress is tailored to individual circumstances and workplace availability.
