Course overview
This level 2 qualification involves installing a range of roofing materials and products at height. It includes interpreting drawings, measuring and calculating the required amount of materials.
Suitable for
Individuals aged 16 years and over in full time employment for a roofing installation contractor with less than 3 years experience.

Skills Gained
On completion of this programme, apprentices will be able to confidently install waterproof membrane systems in line with industry standards. This includes preparing surfaces, selecting appropriate materials, and carrying out installations safely and efficiently. Apprentices will develop the practical skills needed to work on real job sites, follow technical specifications, and contribute effectively as part of a roofing team.
Knowledge Gained
Apprentices will gain a strong understanding of waterproof membrane systems, including the different types available and where they are best applied. The course covers key construction principles, materials, and methods, alongside essential health and safety regulations such as working at height. Apprentices will also understand environmental considerations, helping them work responsibly and sustainably on site.
How the Course is Delivered
Training is delivered in partnership with employers, allowing apprentices to gain valuable, real-world experience alongside structured learning. Apprentices spend 80% of their time in the workplace, carrying out roofing tasks under the guidance of experienced mentors, and 20% in the training centre. Centre-based training is delivered through weekly block release, where apprentices develop both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to succeed in the role.

How You’ll Be Assessed
Apprentices build a portfolio of evidence throughout the programme, which is assessed by their tutor. The portfolio includes a combination of practical and theoretical work completed both in the workplace with their employer and during training at the centre.
Once apprentices are ready to complete the course, they will undertake an End-Point Assessment (EPA), which is carried out by an independent assessment organisation. The End-Point Assessment consists of:
- A multiple-choice test
- A professional discussion
- A practical task
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion, apprentices will achieve a Level 2 qualification in Roofing โ Waterproof Membrane Installation. This qualification demonstrates competence in the role and is recognised across the construction industry as a benchmark of skill and knowledge.
Awarding Body
The qualification is awarded by NOCN, ensuring it meets national standards and is valued by employers across the construction sector.
Duration
Apprentices typically complete this programme within 12โ15 months; however, they have up to 24 months if needed. We provide ongoing support throughout the programme and will continue to work closely with each apprentice until they are fully prepared and confident to undertake their end-point assessment.
Career Progression
This qualification provides a strong foundation for further development within the roofing industry. Apprentices may progress to advanced Level 3 qualifications, specialise further in roofing systems, or move into supervisory roles. With experience, there are also opportunities to progress into site management or broader construction careers.
