At Langley, we’re proud to celebrate the talented women across our business who help shape our industry every day.
For Emanuela Mackenzie, Senior Technical Support Administration Co-ordinator, working in construction is about camaraderie, family and strength.
“I love the feeling of being part of something. The family atmosphere the company creates really stands out.”
Having joined the industry after working in other sectors, Emanuela admits she initially felt unsure about sharing her opinions.
“My advice to other women considering construction is to never be afraid to give your opinion. Everyone I’ve worked with has always been open to hearing my thoughts. Your voice is important.”
For Emanuela, one of the most rewarding parts of the industry is seeing the impact of the work around us.
“Construction is everywhere. Being able to say I played even a small part in that makes me proud, and seeing what we achieve together as a team makes me extremely proud.”
For Gabriella, Business Development Co-ordinator at Langley, working in construction is about collaboration, support and confidence in your voice.
“In construction, it’s not uncommon to find yourself as the only woman in the room — but that doesn’t mean you don’t belong there. Your perspective is important and your voice is needed.”
What Gabriella enjoys most about the industry is the culture of teamwork and support.
“Especially at Langley, where everyone’s expertise and contributions are genuinely valued, regardless of background or gender.”
Her advice to other women considering a career in construction is simple:
- Go for it
- Don’t be intimidated
- Your perspective matters
“When you find the right team, you support each other, learn together and have a laugh along the way.”
For Millie Sanders, currently completing her apprenticeship with Langley Training Services on Slating and Tiling construction has always felt like the right fit.
Millie has been working in construction since she was 16 and enjoys the variety and satisfaction that comes with hands-on work.
“I love that every day is different. You can complete a job, look back at what you’ve achieved and feel proud of it. It’s also a very collaborative industry, if there’s something you don’t know, there’s always someone willing to help.”
For Millie, apprenticeships are a great way to learn and grow.“You’re constantly learning and improving your skills. Apprenticeships are always a great opportunity, no matter your age.”
Her advice to other women considering construction is simple:
- Go for it! You won’t know until you try
- Don’t be afraid to work with the older generation, they’re there to help
- Young people bring new ideas and perspectives to the industry
“If you enjoy being hands-on and don’t want to sit behind a desk all day, construction could be the perfect fit.”
At Langley, creating an environment where people feel supported and able to grow is part of what For Better Living means to us.
Because diverse teams bring stronger ideas, fresh perspectives and a better future for our industry.
